The preventive medicine unit

The Preventive Medicine Unit is a service that deals with preventive and health-related matters in the university environment, under the supervision of qualified medical personnel and the authority of the University Rector. Its aim is to ensure the protection and health education of students, teachers, and administrative and technical staff.

MPU provides its services to the university community daily from 8am to 4pm and 24/7 at the university residences.

Team and structures:

The services of the Preventive Medicine Unit are provided by a qualified team of 13 physicians, a dentist, 3 nurses, and a psychologist, distributed across the 5 faculties, 3 institutes, and the Unit Coordination office located on the El Bez Campus. Services and care provided:

• Systematic medical screening consultation, mandatory for 1st year students upon registration;
• Advice, information, medical certificates (fitness or contraindication to physical and sporting activities, work, vaccinations, scholarships, etc.);
• For people with specific needs: medical certificates, various advice for adapting studies, assistance, etc.;
• Dietary advice;
• Dental surgery consultation for emergency care, referral and advice;
• Confidential psychology consultations;
• Vaccination (Hepatitis B, for students of the Faculty of Medicine and students in Master of Biology, DT, etc.);

The MPU ensures, in collaboration with local health structures in the wilaya, weekly specialized medical consultations on referral from the doctor of the preventive medicine unit of the Faculty/Institute, in the following specialties: internal medicine, diabetology, infectious diseases, tobacco addiction, dermatology…etc.

Other services and actions:

• To ensure a clean environment for resident students.
• Conduct systematic periodic visits to university restaurants to check hygiene and cleanliness at all university restaurants, food product storage, compliance with the cold chain, water tanks, water sources and fountains, etc.
• Organize health education campaigns concerning key public health themes: nutrition, sexually transmitted diseases, and awareness campaigns on addictions (tobacco, alcohol, drugs).
• Provide training in first aid techniques.
