Algeria acceded to the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, as well as its 1972 Protocol, in 1965 and 2003 respectively.
Cannabis is the most widely used drug in the world and in Algeria. Some experts cite alarming figures regarding the consumption of this drug nationwide.
Drugs are present everywhere in Algeria, in both urban and rural areas. They affect all segments of society. They particularly affect young people between the ages of 12 and 35.
